New stand-up comedian, Dane Cook.
Quick foreword
Okay, first off all, I totally learnt how to embed videos from youtube into this shit. Right on! I wish I would have known how to do this before.. I kinda saw it in someone else's blog lately (cough, Ryno, cough) and thought there had to be some way of doing this with my blog too. Okay, so maybe I'm late. I don't care, stfu, I'm happy I figured this shit out. I'm even going to go back to my old Cristiano Ronaldo blog and embed the videos there too. Ha! The possibilities!
Now, I love stand-up comedy, always have, since the first time I saw Jerry Seinfeld. But I have a pretty picky sense of humour when it comes to stand-up. Some, or most professional stand-up artists can make me smile and laugh occasionally, but very few actually have me laughing my ASS off.
I think I am starting to develop a pretty good idea about what kind of stand-up comedy I like.
I especially like stand-up artists who are good at changing their voices and/or impersonating others, such as Eddie Murphy and Pablo Francisco.
Alright, first of all, check Eddie Murphy's back in the good old days, in a famous show called Raw.
Awesome, isn't it? I know.
That Eddie Murphy video doesn't have the entire show, though, just the first part of it. You can browse for the other parts on www.youtube.com if you really enjoyed it. I love how he pokes fun of Bill Cosby... mostly because it's like.. SO mean and so unusual. No one is ever mean to Bill Cosby! Bill Cosby is everyone's pretend-grandpa, everyone loves him, so that parody was just so frickin unexpected, but hilarious because he does the imitation so well. Seeing that videoclip reminded me of how funny Eddie Murphy really is. I think a lot of people forgot what an excellent comedian he can be, what with all the cheesy movies he's done lately, like Dr Dolittle and Haunted Mansion. What is it with comedians growing old and losing their edge, going from rude and loud to politically correct family movie actors. The Nutty Professor movies were cool, but nowhere near as brilliant as Raw. (Btw, I know Raw isn't a movie, I'm comparing the funniness of the two. Bitch)
Moving on. Here's an excellent stand-up show by Pablo Francisco made for Comedy Central.
Pablo Francisco is just plain awesome. He is an amazing impersonator. The movie trailer guy voice, was what first made me "fall" for him. I believe that is what he's most famous for. The act is often called "The Little Tortilla Boy". Fuckin pwnage. "You have to get out of here! They're trying to take my tortillas!"
Another amazing comedian is Chris Rock though he is not as good at impersonating celebrities and such. He's more of a classical stand-up artist in the sense that he's more of a talker than an actor on stage. He discusses different subjects in a humorous way.
Chris Rock is probably most famous for his "Toss Salad Man" routine, although I think the Niggers vs Black People is his best. He is not afraid to tell it like it is, he doesn't let stupid shit like "political correctness" inhibit him. Hehe, one of his opening phrases to this part of the show are: "Who's more racist, black people or white people? Black people! You know why? Cuz we hate black people too!"
Gold. Check it out.
It takes a black man to say some of the things he says in that show. Although most people, regardless of race probably agree, there's no way a white man could say anything like that and not be accused of being racist. Hell, I'm sure even Chris was criticisized a lot for saying that shit, but I think most blacks know in their heart that he's right.
Dude, there are a few other stand-up comedians that are great and that I'd like to talk about, but I think it's about time I cut to the chase.
Dane Cook.
Okay, so he might not be so new, as in new in the business, but he is new to me. And since this is my blog, the world revolves around me right now. And yes, that makes perfect sense.
Anyway, I don't know much about Dane Cook, cuz I had never seen him perform any of his stand-up material before, but then I stumbled across some of his videos. Let me tell you, they had me rolling. Yes, R-O-L-L-I-N-G. Literally.
No, honestly. Literally.
So, like I said, I don't know much about him, except that he's an american stand-up comedian/actor. Judging from the videos I've seen he's in his 30's. I guess I could look some stuff up, but nah. Don't feel like it. It's irrelevant anyway. What is relevant is that he's hilarious. He reminds me a lot about Pablo Francisco, not just cuz they look alike, but their voices sound alike too, and they have in many ways, quite the same type of stand-up material, although I still think there are huge differences between the two.
I think Pablo is better at imitations, but Dane has better punch lines.
Well, judge for yourself, this is a show from the Insomniac Tour. It's the best stand-up I've seen him do so far.
Notice that Dane Cook is a lot more active on stage. He moves, and jumps around a lot more, uses more body language, and is overall louder and wilder. I kinda suspect every stand-up show must be like an intensive workout session for him.
I like that he's loud, explicit and young. And by young, I mean his jokes are stuff that young people can really relate to, but I also think that it might be a disadvantage for him. I think while Pablo Francisco is able to capture audiences of a wide variety of ages, Dane Cook probably doesn't have many fans under 30. But then again when I think about it, it's alright. The guy's obviously doing well anyway. Haha, notice how the females in the audience are going nuts? Lmao, fuckin groupies. But that's alright... It probably helps that he's kinda good-looking, but man, that guy is FUNNY.
Well, I am about to wrap this up, but before I do that, I just also want to add that I heard that Dane Cook has a new movie in theatres soon. Jessica "Oh, fuck that! Not her again!" Simpson is going to be in it too. (Why, Dane? Whyyy??)
I guess I'll just have to live with that, there are lots of really funny actors in that movie. Here's the trailer.
It seems pretty funny. Please, Dane, don't let me down.
